On Friday 11th April the Saints men faced Perth Phoenix at home in a game crucial to their position in the Fife and Tayside Local League next season. With new coach Chris Peys also making his first appearance with the team, everything was to play for.
The guys got off to a slow start allowing Perth to gain a decent buffer, but Saints never let them get too far ahead allowing Perth to maintain a point difference of around 10. An incredible third quarter full of intensity and fast break saw the teams tied and ensured the fourth quarter was going to be exciting – especially considering Saints track record in fourth quarters. And an exciting fourth quarter was what we got, with players being fouled out, technical fouls and 10 seconds to score a 3 pointer to win the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the Saints team and Perth came out victorious at 75-73.Despite the loss, it was a much needed return to form for the guys with some great basketball played. If they can carry this form forward into their next two games, it looks very promising.
